Bears Re-Sign TE Zach Miller To 2-Year Deal

By Chris Emma--

(CBS) One of the Bears' most pleasant surprises in 2015, tight end Zach Miller, will be back in Chicago on a two-year deal.

Following a Sunday visit in Los Angeles with the Rams, the 31-year-old Miller agreed to terms Monday with the Bears, who had made it a priority to re-sign him.

Miller had a career year in 2015, recording 34 catches for 439 yards and five touchdowns, with most of that production coming in the second half of the season. He had missed the previous three seasons with various injuries, including all of 2014, his first in Chicago, after suffering a Lisfranc injury in the preseason. Bears general manager Ryan Pace believed in Miller, bringing him back on a one-year deal during his first offseason.

Now, Miller's returning to the Bears following a week of heavy interest around the NFL. He became a commodity after showing his production in a 15-game season mostly filled with good health.

"You look at his career, his journey, he's went through a lot of ups and downs," Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said in December. "I couldn't be more happy for a guy like him."

The Bears' situation at tight end remains complicated, with incumbent start Martellus Bennett being shopped this offseason to potential suitors.

By retaining Miller for 2016 and beyond, the Bears can feel more comfortable about the position. Earlier in the day, the Bears signed tight end Rob Housler to a one-year deal.
